About me
I'm Denis Lyakhov, a computer science student and the founder of UnitConv. I work at the intersection of applied math and the web, with a focus on reference tools that load fast, stay accurate, and respect the user's time.
UnitConv began with a frustration every student knows. Most unit converters on the open web fall into one of two camps — heavy, ad-choked sites where the answer is buried three scrolls below the banner, or stripped-down widgets that quietly use rounded or outdated factors. Neither is what you want at 2 a.m. between a problem set and a deadline. I built UnitConv to be the thing that was missing: an instant, ad-light, mathematically rigorous converter, available in six languages, that works on a slow phone in a library as well as on a desk in an office.
I personally curate every conversion factor on UnitConv against primary sources. SI definitions come from the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM); unit-level traceability is verified against the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST); historical context is drawn from CGPM resolutions and peer-reviewed metrology literature. I add a new conversion only after verifying the factor to at least six significant figures, and I review every translation against the English source before publication. Corrections submitted by users are reviewed within 48 hours.
